Go to the Astronomy Picture of the Day Links to an external site.and choose the one that corresponds to Monday of the week this assignment is due (May 2nd). What object is pictured? 2. Go to the web site for NASA's Dawn mission Links to an external site.. What object is the spacecraft Dawn currently orbiting (though it is now out of fuel)? (Hint: it is the second object that Dawn visited.) 3. Go to the Sky and Telescope magazine’s homepage Links to an external site.. On the navigation menu find the “Observing” link and then the “This Week’s Sky at a Glance” link. List an event happening on Tuesday (May 3rd) of the week this assignment is due . 4. Continuing with the "Observing" link at the "Sky and Telescope" web site, under the "Telescopes & More" link select “Choosing your Astronomy Equipment”. On this page of articles, find the article called something like "How to choose your first telescope." (I know, there are a lot of articles....you'll find it.) What does the article say is the most important characteristic of the telescope? 5. Visit the web site for the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). Click on the three horizontal lines in the upper right corner and then at the link called "About Webb", then the link called "About Overview". Click on one of the most recent articles. What is the title and date given for this article? 7. Now let's visit the Lucy Spacecraft Mission Page. Links to an external site.How many asteroids is the Lucy mission supposed to visit and how long is the mission supposed to take? 8. Now let's go the Osiris-Rex website. What year will Osiris-Rex pass by the Earth to deliver its sample? (You may have to hunt around the links to find this. Check out the News tab, and then click on Mission Status.) 9. Now go to the Planetary Society's Light Sail 2 project. What are the two dimensions (length x width) of rectangular solar sails of Light Sail 2? (Give your answer in meters x meters.) 10. Go to Space News Links to an external site.. Under the heading of Space News you will see a recent story. Click on the story and write down the date given and give the title of the news story. The next set of questions are based upon the following star chart. Watch my video for hints on how to use the SC001 and SC002 charts to figure out what part of the sky is shown.
